ABOUT HAEMATOLOGY DEPARTMENT

Haematology Department is one of the departments that make up the Faculty of Clinical Sciences under the College of Health Sciences of Bayero University Kano. The Department currently has 7 academic staff, 3 technical staff, and 2 administrative staff. We are involved in teaching undergraduate pathology at 400 level of MBBS and BDS programs of BUK. In addition, we offer support and actively teach in both undergraduate and postgraduate (MSc/PhD) programs of Medical Laboratory Science (Faculty of Allied Health Sciences), Otorhinolaryngology and Surgical Sciences (Faculty of Clinical Sciences) programs. Haematology Department is currently developing a curriculum to commence postgraduate programs in Haematology with sub-specialisation options. Our Department is actively engaged in both local and collaborative research within the BUK College of Health Sciences and abroad. Our academic staff have held, or are currently holding, several internationally competitive research grants from various funders including the Nigerian Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund), The US National Institutes of Health (NIH) and the Fogarty International, St Jude's Children's Hospital (US), The American Society of Heamatology (ASH) and the Greifwald University, Germany.
